Chicago, Illinois, September 12, 2006 – Mori Seiki USA, a company dedicated to true technological innovation, has announced the contest winners of its Innovation of the Americas cutting contest. Supported by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), the competition was designed to recognize the finest innovations and technical expertise in all the Americas. The contest winners were announced at Mori Seiki’s booth during an awards ceremony at IMTS.

The Innovation of the Americas contest was open to any company, school or research institution located in North, Central, and South America that is involved in metal cutting and is experienced with CNC machine tools. Individuals and companies that desired an opportunity to showcase their creativity and machining expertise and skills were encouraged to participate.

“Our goal with the competition was to recognize the many talented machinists in the Americas,” commented Dr. Masahiko Mori, president of Mori Seiki Co., Ltd. “Manufacturing is at the core of the growing global economy, and we wanted to demonstrate the high level of precision, creativity and skill involved in its many processes.”

Four professionals from reputable industry organizations and universities, led by Professor Kazuo Yamazaki of the University of California, Davis, judged over 160 entries in four categories. The entries represented a wide range of materials, sizes and shapes, and were of such quality craftsmanship, selecting the winning parts was a challenge for the judges.
