Chicago, Illinois, April 6, 2009 - Mori Seiki’s Digital Technology Laboratory (DTL) will host a
grand opening ceremony and open house May 20-22 for media and guests to celebrate the
construction of its 70,000-square-foot research and development center and headquarters in
Davis, California. This three-day event will include the launch of the NMV3000DCG and NT1000
machines.
The newly constructed facility is both environmentally and technologically friendly. The building
features a dedicated thermal isolation chamber, vibration dampening floors, solar power
solutions and space to house over a dozen machine tools. This new, state-of-the-art showroom
and office space has acquired a LEEDS (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold
Certification that ensures the conservation of energy and water while improving health and safety
for both occupants and the community at large.
"The opening of Digital Technology Laboratory’s new headquarters is a natural extension of the
company’s success," says Adam Hansel, President of DTL. "Expanding and adding new
technology to our facility will only add to the rapid growth of DTL and our work to keep Mori Seiki
at the forefront of the industry in innovation."
"The DTL Grand Opening will include demonstrations on over ten machines and will include the
domestic debut of the NMV3000DCG. The NMV3000DCG is the latest in Mori Seiki’s multi-axis
vertical machining center lineup. It builds on the highly successful design of the NMV5000DCG,
providing both high-precision machining and ease of use in a compact machine. The
NMV3000DCG has X-axis travels of 19.68" and can accommodate workpieces up to 220 lbs.
Also launching at the DTL event will be the NT1000; the NT1000 is the smallest of Mori Seiki’s
integrated NT Series machines, providing exceptional compact multi-tasking machining. With a
footprint of only 58-square-feet, the NT1000 is ideal for high-precision medical workpieces.
DTL will also feature demonstrations on the NN1000 ultra-precision machine that was developed
entirely by DTL engineers. This "Nano Machine" utilizes diamond milling or scribing tools and
can accurately machine features in the micron range with nanometer level surface finishes.
Symmetric DCG construction enables feeds of up to 4500mm/min and minimizes thermal
deformation.
Additional activities to be highlighted at the grand opening event include an address by Dr.
Masahiko Mori, Machining Technology Laboratory (MTL) demonstrations, facility tours and
technical presentations.
Since 2000, DTL has created high-performance and low-cost solutions for clients by providing
innovative analysis methodologies, advanced mechanical design techniques and highperformance
software solutions. Created to help Mori Seiki provide customers with high added
value and the best possible machining solutions, DTL has shortened the product development
cycle and improved the quality of new machines. To learn more about DTL, visit www.dtlab.com
