Mori Seiki Named Official Supplier to International Skills Festival for All
Dura Series machines to be used in longstanding competition

Chicago, Illinois, September 11, 2007 – Mori Seiki has been selected to serve as an official supplier to the International Skills Festival for All. The event will take place November 14-21 in Shizuoka, Japan and represents the first time that the World Skills Competition and International Abilympics will be held concurrently.

Machines from Mori Seiki’s Dura Series were chosen for use in multiple events in the 39th World Skills Competition. This biannual event was created to promote increased technical proficiency within participating
countries. Over 10,000 young engineers have competed in the World Skills Competition throughout its long history. For this year’s event, over 800 participants from 50 countries will compete for top honors. All
participants have won rigorous preliminary competitions to qualify for a coveted spot at the event.

“It is a great honor to be selected as an official supplier for the International Skills Festival for All,” says Dr. Masahiko Mori, President of Mori Seiki Co., Ltd. “The issue of skilled workforce development is a constant challenge in today’s world. Events such as this help to guarantee that we maintain a workforce capable of capitalizing on the benefits of the latest technological innovations.”

The DuraVertical5060 vertical machining center and DuraTurn2050 lathe will be used in a variety of turning and milling events during the World Skills Competition. In designing the DuraVertical5060, Mori Seiki
surpassed previous machine designs in the areas of reliability and accuracy. The machine features a No. 40 taper spindle with a maximum speed of 10,000 rpm. Rapid traverse rates of 1,417.3 ipm are possible on the X- and Y-axes, with a maximum rate of 787.4 on the Z-axis. With a standard tool storage capacity of 30 tools and a tool-to-tool change time of just 1.3 seconds, the DuraVertical5060 provides highly efficient performance.

The DuraTurn2050 was developed with an extremely rigid body to minimize the effects of vibration and increase accuracy, even over long-term operation. Roller guides further stabilize the machine’s turning ability. The machine contains 12 tool stations and a maximum rapid traverse rate of 944.9 ipm across both the X- and Z-axes.

All machines in the Dura Series offer the high levels of quality and performance of Mori Seiki at an extremely competitive price.
